All the leather used in making Il Bisonte bags and accessories comes from animals raised for food use, and would otherwise have to be disposed of.

All artisanal processes are environmentally sustainable, systematically optimized and favor using biodegradable materials as well as recycling production waste.

Il Bisonte bags and accessories are vegetable tanned through an ancient technique that uses tannin which is extracted from chestnut, mimosa and quebracho among other natural sources. In addition to being an issue of environmental responsibility and social ethics, sustainability in Il Bisonte’s view is also a choice of beauty.

In fact, only tannin can bring out the warm tones and woody fragrance in the leather, and guarantee unexpected durability from the its softness. After tanning it is not easy to immediately distinguish chemically treated from ‘vegetable’ treated leather: the only proof comes out over time; time demonstrates how Il Bisonte creations mature over the years, and why they become more charming with every new wrinkle.

If tannin in the seeds on the vine can give wine body, tannin on Il Bisonte leather can bend it over the arc of a lifetime to the wearer’s personality, without dampening the scents and colors that once showed it to be the best choice.
