Ai Weiwei. Libero (2016 – 2017)
In the occasion of the exhibition ‘Ai Weiwei. Libero’ (September 2016 – January 2017), the most famous living Chinese artist decorated the façade of Palazzo Strozzi with 22 inflatable lifeboats, symbolizing the sea rescues of thousands of refugees fleeing war, persecution, and famine.
To celebrate the first Italian exhibition dedicated to the controversial artist Il Bisonte created an electric blue and red leather bag that recalls shapes and colors of the boats used by migrants from Middle East and Africa to cross the Mediterranean Sea in search of peace and freedom.
Hidden in the interior, there are educational tools that help visitors to understand the strong political and symbolical impact of the installations, sculptures, LEGO portraits, videos and photographs made by the artist in the last 20 years.
