From caterpillars to philosophy

  3. From caterpillars to philosophy

Who has ever really seen a caterpillar metamorphose into a butterfly? It is the most common and fruitful, the most unknown and poetic of nature’s changes – but this also happens in us, daily. It is the logic of conversation, of any exchange of words, that never leaves us untouched.

Emanuele Coccia’s latest book bears the title of this Metamorphosis: perhaps his philosophy—read by young people from all over the world—has found meaning that unites one’s internal life, one’s thoughts, with the inexorable life of nature, and can help us to understand both.
