“Where there was once pasture land, now there’s a forest.” Brazil, Minas Gerais, Instituto Terra. The slopes of a valley in the planet’s sick lung are once again part of the Amazon rainforest. Under a new firmament of trees flows the water that for years had been thought stolen from the soil.
Yet, it is not due to some miracle from a ‘divine artist’, but rather the intention of an artist who embraces his land, the great photographer Sebastião Salgado, and his wife Lélia. Thus, reforestation becomes a metaphor for every renewal. Possible. Indeed it’s as easy to do as opening a camera lens.
