We’re in Pontassieve! For our fourth installment we toured Il Bisonte’s creative and logistics center. In the Restoration Department we saw bags returning to Pontassieve. To be old forever.
A TIMELESS DEPARTMENT
…return to Pontassieve. That Il Bisonte incentivizes restoring its bags is nothing new. Nor is it the only brand to do so. The difference – and it’s a big one – lies in the relationship our bags have with time. As time goes by, as these bags wear down, they only get better.
In practice: it’s a matter of choice. Imagine getting a leather product on your workbench that you yourself may have sewn years earlier using a few fine pieces. The leather is darker and scarred. A button has popped off. A seam is loose. What to do?
IDENTICAL TO WHAT?
Not what they’re doing in Paris for instance, with the spire of Notre-Dame. You’ll remember that in 2019 it was destroyed by a fire. The restoration underway aims to rebuild it exactly as it was before. (And not everyone recalls that its tower was already a modern invention.)
In Pontassieve, there are hardly any beams on buttons and seams. But the leather cannot be made identical to what it was before. What was it like then? Without the history that caressed it. So, our artisans’ goal – and perhaps it is only their goal – is to make bags old again. Forever Old.
